Le Mans
The beautiful 15th / 16th century medieval old town in Le Mans is located just north of the central Place de la Republique, on the eastern side of the river. This pedestrianised centre contains a maze of narrow streets, hemmed in by colombage (half-timbered) and medieval stone houses. Roman walls partly surround this part of the town. However, Le Mans is most commonly known for The Le Mans race (the 24 Hours race), which takes place on public roads (closed for the day!) and has been held here since 1923. It also holds the 24 hours Classic car race and the Moto GP.

Moto GP, 15th, 16th & 17th May 2009
The French Moto GP from the world-famous racing track at Le Mans is an absolute must-see. The bikes reach speeds of up to 310kph (185mph) and the races are extremely competitive.
The Moto GP is one of the fastest, most thrilling sports in the world. Unlike Formula 1 racing, overtaking is frequent. The riders take the bravest lines to weave through the field and when the bikes close on each other they push it to the limit.
24 Hours Race, 13th – 14th June 2009
The Le Mans 24-hour race tests the drivers skill, the cars performance and the endurance of both. Le Mans can trace its history back to the invention of the automobile, when Amédée Bollée made a drive from Paris to Le Mans. The new vehicle caught on to such an extent that within 30 years, (in 1923) the local automobile club had set up the first 24-hour race as a one-off challenge. Today, the event is massively popular, attracting owners and drivers from the most prestigious companies.
24 Hours Classic
The Le Mans Classic event, for cars manufactured during years 1923 - 1979, takes place every two years. This year the event is scheduled to take place in 2010.
